American Association of People with Disabilities
The largest national nonprofit cross-disability member organization in the United States, dedicated to ensuring economic self-sufficiency and political empowerment for the more than 56 million Americans with disabilities. AAPD works in coalition with other disability organizations for the full implementation and enforcement of disability nondiscrimination laws, particularly the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990 and the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.
Assistive Technology Loan Fund Authority (ATLFA)
Are you a resident of Virginia with a disability and do you need equipment or home modifications? We want to help you purchase the right device or equipment! There are assistive technology screenings and assessments available through the Woodrow Wilson Rehabilitation Center, Children's Hospital of Richmond, VATS regional sites and other locations near you. And we'll pay for an assessment if your insurance won't. We can even arrange for services from a rehabilitation engineer through the Department of Rehabilitation Services.

Founded in 1993, Disability Rights Advocates is a national and international non-profit organization dedicated to protecting and advancing the civil rights of people with disabilities. Operated by and established for people with disabilities, DRA pursues its mission through research, education, and legal advocacy. DRA's mission is to ensure dignity, equality, and opportunity for people with all types of disabilities throughout the United States and worldwide.

Disability Resources is a nonprofit organization that monitors, reviews, and reports on these resources every day. We disseminate information about them to libraries, disability organizations, health and social service professionals, consumers and family members.

Virginia Department of Rehabilitative Services
The Department of Rehabilitative Services provides services to help Virginians with disabilities become more independent and self-sufficient. In keeping with our mission and values, our knowledgeable and talented employees work in partnership with people with disabilities, their families, and public and private service providers to ensure high quality, timely and efficient service delivery.
Virginia Office for Protection & Advocacy
The Virginia Office for Protection and Advocacy (VOPA) helps with disability-related problems like abuse, neglect, and discrimination. We also help people with disabilities obtain services and treatment. All callers receive help with these problems. Individuals with problems, targeted in our program goals, may also receive advocacy services and/or legal representation.
Virginia Board for People with Disabilities
VBPD serves as Virginia’s Developmental Disabilities (DD) Planning Council. DD Councils are in every state and territory of the United States. They work for the benefit of individuals with DD and their families to identify needs and help develop policies, programs and services that will meet these needs in a manner that respects dignity and independence.
Virginia Council for Independent LivingThe Statewide Independent Living Council (SILC) is an independent planning body working with the Department of Rehabilitative Services and the Department for the Blind and Vision Impaired to increase the impact of Independent Living (IL) services in Virginia. The SILC is composed of Gubernatorial appointees who represent people with significant disabilities across the state, the interests of Centers for Independent Living (CILs), and Independent Living programs and services.
